It is somewhat of a Lake Tahoe "right of passage" to take a leap off of Bonsai Rock. If you're going to jump off any rock, this is the one to do it from! That being said I still haven’t done it myself. They say the hardest part is swimming to the rock in the cold water. And trust me, the water can be very cold even in the summer.
I really wanted to get a shot of my friend jumping off of Bonsai Rock during sunset. We drove there and hiked down to rock, and at the last minute, he almost back out. But once he finally jumped he couldn’t get enough. He jumped off a few extra times after capturing this shot! And maybe next time, I'll be the one making the jump.
From the moment I first laid eyes on Lake Tahoe, I felt a powerful connection to it. So much so that I would enthusiastically drive the 7 hours from LA several times a year just to photograph it! Tahoe had become my favorite source of inspiration, and I started to wonder what it would be like to live there.
So one day, after living in LA for six years, I decided it was time to take a chance on a new adventure. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing a soul, I had only planned to stay for four months. I never would've imagined that two and a half years later, I'd still be living here, feeling as inspired as ever. 💙
Each piece in this collection represents a moment in Lake Tahoe that I found to be especially beautiful and out of the ordinary. The collection is also an ode to following your heart down an exciting path unknown.
