This is a companion piece to my photo "Hollow".

"Hollow" was created in an attempt to capture something unique from the artistically oversaturated slot canyons of the American Southwest. I love the area, but I felt like I had seen all the compositions a thousand times. I had an idea to take a top-down shot of a slot canyon, but drones are illegal in the area and none of the canyons accessible by ground were conducive to making my idea a reality. Instead, after about a week of planning, we found a slot canyon that was only accessible from the water. We kayaked six miles down the Colorado, hiked into the canyon from the backside and made the shot "Hollow" happen. "Carve" is meant to show the journey taken to create such a unique composition of the slot canyons, a long paddle through the canyons to create a single photo that would bring something unique to the world of adventure photography.
