Schrödinger's Woman
To be a women is an act of imagination. every day is a door way in which she stands picturing the worst possible thing that could happen to her. every evening, stepping into red heels, or spraying perfume onto her miraculous pulse, a women imagines herself into nightmare and fantasy alternately. meticulously. before she has clasped the pearls behind her neck a women has imagined her own marriage and murder, twice. in her purse, the lipstick and pepper spray collide. a woman pressed send and imagines all the ways it could ruin her life. Schrödinger's woman; at once dead and alive. at once twirling under. sunlight, into his arms, at once dissolving at the edges at the bottom of a river. you're always imagining things of course am. that is how I have stayed alive.
We are often taught to mould our personalities, behaviour and choices in a way that would be acceptable to the society. We are told that, the freedom to be true to yourself, your dreams and aspirations is only acceptable if it subscribes to the societal norms and prevalent cultural practices. The sad reality is that, majority of the women succumb to these rules from fear of being talked about, laughed at and what not, often thinking "what will people say". Lets take out a moment to reflect that, why is it so difficult for us to accept others for who they are and not what we want them to be? We need to understand that, freedom, acceptance and validation are essential for empowerment and women empowerment is the key to a progressive and inclusive society.
