A lot has been said about how the people in Finland are not the friendliest and how challenging it could be to make friends there, but the challenges for an immigrant/international student run deeper than just making friends.
For Kacii, it was missed opportunities. Most jobs were listed in Finnish, and the chances of getting the ones she really wanted were slim. The expectations to learn Finnish began to weigh her down. Fluent Finnish is a requirement for most jobs.
At school, some teachers did not even try to hide their preferences. Information was not shared. Suddenly you would just see your classmates working on film/music projects that should have required everyone to submit an indication of interest.
A teacher once made-up new rules for Kacii when she indicated interest to work on a summer animation project in collaboration with another school. Suddenly, he wanted to see her film music portfolio and the latest film she had worked on. The teacher’s first email advertisement, which he sent out to the whole department, did not contain any specific requirements – it asked for people who are interested to participate, even people with little or no experience! He was also her film music composition teacher and had made several nice statements about her class assignments and homework. Why was he suddenly acting like he did not know her?
She challenged the process and was awarded a place on the project, only to find that it got nowhere because the teacher failed to respond to her requests for guidance.
Then she discovered and began to explore the NFT space. There, Kacii Eleven found that she could immerse herself in her art and music, setting and achieving goals for herself that exceeded those which society and her teachers evidently thought were all that she was capable of achieving. And she could learn Finnish at her own pace.
NFTs enabled Kacii to set her own trajectory as a strong, independent, and financially solvent artist, freeing herself from the need to rely upon a system that is clearly lacking in diversity and inclusion, and which put many obstacles in her way.
Untold Chronicles is a documentation of events that has made memorable and dynamic changes in the lives of people either negatively or positively. Some of these stories remain untold or undiscovered because the ones who had these experiences could not find the right words, medium, or the confidence to do so which could be, as a result of social values and lack of true humans who share empathy. This collection was created to document my personal stories as well as the stories of others.The collection shows an artistic view of how they fought and overcame.
