When the conditions are just right, which is cold and humid enough, hoar frost flowers appear on lakes and rivers. When you can also get a clear sky before they disappear, aurora might show up, and like this photo, you can potentially get a tremendous composition. Photo taken on Salmon river, Senja, Norway.

Aurora reflections collection image

The aurora borealis is a mesmerizing natural phenomenon that so many people long to see before they die. It is what started my astrophotography career and I have been chasing them for 8 years now. On some nights, the aurora is very faint, but sometimes it explodes in very intense, bright and colorful shows. My personal favorite experience is when viewing such shows next to a still body of flowing water. When there is no wind and the sky is dark enough, you get the perfect play of mirror on the water surface. You are alone watching in this ephemeral, ethereal world, with only the sounds of nocturnal animals in the distance. In this collection, I am listing some of my best aurora reflection work taken all over the world.
