In January 2020, I experienced one of the widest auroras ever. When the expansion phase of a substorm kicks in, the aurora goes from a single narrow band to engulfing the whole sky with dancing pillars and bands of colors in a matter of seconds. That night, I was driving with Alyn chasing aurora on Senja island. I said to him: 'Pull over, it's gonna explode'. He did, and we didn't get disappointed, as the aurora developed right above mount Segla.
The aurora borealis is a mesmerizing natural phenomenon that so many people long to see before they die. It is what started my astrophotography career and I have been chasing them for 8 years now. On some nights, the aurora is very faint, but sometimes it explodes in very intense, bright and colorful shows. My personal favorite experience is when viewing such shows next to a still body of flowing water. When there is no wind and the sky is dark enough, you get the perfect play of mirror on the water surface. You are alone watching in this ephemeral, ethereal world, with only the sounds of nocturnal animals in the distance. In this collection, I am listing some of my best aurora reflection work taken all over the world.
