Often times when I start a collage I am freestyling. Gathering photos I like and just start cutting. This photo of this girl reminds me so much of me. When I was younger growing up in a Haitian house hold, this was a hair style I had many times and I remember hating it as child. Now older I realized I love my hair. This piece is for a girl like me to remember to look in the mirror and see who they are, their culture, their beauty. Unlocks print as well with the digital collage
SAYZART was created last year 2020 during the pandemic and George Floyd was murdered. I wanted to express myself but I was never good with words so I did it the only way I knew how... and that was to CREATE. Eager to say something and let out frustration, I began to freestyle, with no goal or idea what I wanted to create, I began manipulating photos, drawing and before I knew it I created a mixed art piece, or some say, digital collages. After creating one, I began to think of other concepts and possibilities. I quickly fell in love with the process to recreate images to make another image. My goal is to create ART that SAYZ something. Art that reflects me, my Haitian culture, my journey being a black women on this earth, things i seen and my experiences. When I create these digital collages, I am reminded each time that ART NEVER DIES.
I hope you find something in this collection that SPEAKS to you.
