Cato the Younger (95–46 BC), also known as Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis, was a steadfast Roman senator and Stoic philosopher, renowned for his unwavering opposition to the rise of Julius Caesar. As a symbol of traditional Roman republican values, Cato staunchly defended the principles of the Senate and the established political order against what he perceived as the encroachment of dictatorship. He gained significant attention for his principled stands against corruption, advocating for integrity and moral rectitude in Roman governance. Unable to reconcile with Caesar's ascendancy and fearing the demise of the Roman Republic, Cato chose to end his life, a decision which, in the eyes of many, immortalized him as a martyr for the republican cause.
