The fact that selling and collecting is something that's usually done personally, without intermediaries, makes us think hard about what we are acquiring, be it for its potential as investment of its artistic value. In any case, the most interesting collectors have a really well thought collection. In physical photography, the price of a piece is usually not in the budget of most photographers, they get collected by collectors that are interested in the medium and that also see them as investments. With photobooks things changed. Books are priced in a more accessible way, and their editions are also bigger (500 to 1000 copies) so it's easier for more people to collect this pieces that are usually of the highest photographic quality. People that buys the most photobooks are photographers and photobook makers themselves. There's a joke that we tell, that books are only changing hands between bookmakers, the books I make are bought by the artists from which I buy books. That's weird but also interesting, we as artists are supporting the medium that we love and actually making it grow by selling and collecting it.

In photography NFTs I think we will see something similar. Artists are being able to support photography they like, and in that way making it grow. The trading aspect of the NFT as a medium allows this, most times it makes more sense to reinvest our winnings than to turn it into fiat. Also, we appreciate what other artists are creating and it's in our interest to actually make it grow and spread through community. So it may be that the people that most collects photography will be photographers themselves, but as photographers become also collectors, that's not a small thing.

Another interesting aspect is collectors becoming aware of how photographic images interact between each other, they will begin making the same conceptual decisions that artists make while editing/curating their work. That will allow deeper conversations and closer relationships with collectors and artists, something that I think is for the benefit of art and photography at large.
