Inukshuk - Traditionally, they were used by the Inuit in the north as directional markers. An Inukshuk in the shape of a person signifies safety, hope and friendship. These stone sculptures were also important for navigation, as a point of reference, as a marker for hunting grounds, or to denote a food cache.

I built this Inukshuk on the banks of Abraham Lake, Alberta, Canada in 2007.. less than a year after returning home from my deployment to Afghanistan. I have always enjoyed taking photographs, but this photo was the one that drove my passion for photography home. At a time when everything was uncertain and confusing, when I wrestled my inner demons and struggled with focus and direction not knowing where my life was headed.

This was the moment I discovered that new found hope, focus, direction and passion for what was ahead of me... with this edition I wish to share with you all those same feelings of hope, safety, and friendship symbolized in this simple stone sculpture :)
