#6 - LIKE A MOTH TO THE FLAME

The pickaxe shape of El Picon, standing tall in the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Spain, has been a favorite of mine since my first visit over 5 years ago. I love to compose around El Picon using the rocky coastline, such as here; however, this is trickier than it looks if you want to have water in the frame, as I did here. To take a shot like this, you need to walk into the ocean and photograph standing in water reaching your belly, with waves lapping at you. This is already complicated enough for short exposures, but it requires some serious care to set your tripod in the water and take a long exposure such as this one, twelve seconds long.

ABOUT VOICES OF THE OCEAN

All my life, I felt a profound affinity with the sea. I always have been amazed by the magical way the ocean lives and breathes, by its powers and endless energy. The ocean feels to me like a living creature, benevolent and terrible at the same time, constantly at work shaping the landscape.

The ocean comes with many voices, visually. The long waves and roaring waters offer an infinite range of expressive possibilities to interpret the ocean’s landscapes through a careful use of the visual representation of time.

Working around the ocean, for me, is a never-ending source of inspiration: this collection represents 7 years of photography, listening to the Voices of The Ocean.
