The hiwa is a lovely bird, slightly smaller than the sparrow, and breeds in monogamy.

The color "hiwairo," named after the hiwa, is found on the feathers of the siskin, and is a beautiful bright yellow with a hint of green.

The hiwa is mentioned in the Pillow Book of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). It is said that the color was used in the ceremonial dress of samurai in the Kamakura period (1185-1333) as a color for congratulation.

ヒワはスズメより少し小さく、一夫一妻で繁殖する可愛らしい鳥です。

ヒワにちなんで名付けられた「鶸色（ひわいろ）」は、ヒワの羽根に見られる色で、鮮やかな黄色にわずかに緑が入る美しい色です。

鶸鳥は「枕草子」にもその名前があげられているのですが、 平安時代には鳥にちなんだ色名はありません。 登場したのは鎌倉時代以降で、武士の礼服に用いられたおめでたい色なのだそうです
