Wherever and whenever they began: the Portraits found you.

Their medium, whether it be delicate brush strokes, an intricate string weave, the meticulous placement of our Earth’s precious stones, has been supplanted and resampled into the atom of contemporary visual communications: the pixel.

Our linear, or even dialectical, understanding of history belies the truth: that there have always been radical deviations and short-circuits, that contra-Clement Greenberg, there is no endpoint of history, no progress or conclusion, that there are endless openings for experimentation in the world. We begin to see in the past traces of futures-to-come in the avant-garde.
