In that moment

To the world , this seems to be a clichè father-daughter bond story- but for me , it was a lot more than that .

The following story is based on true events.

Growing up , I always was my father’s favourite child . Of course I was ! I spent my days trying to impress him and listen to every word he would say . From waking up early in the morning to play tennis ( his favourite sport ) to dawning the haircuts he would want me to get - from delving on the veggies no child would dare to go near to sporting clothes he would choose for me . It was great . We were best buds.

But then one day I grew up . I didn’t do as he wanted me to. I no longer got the haircuts of his choice or dress the way he wanted me to . I ate what I wanted to , wore what I wanted to and became my own person. This changed everything. Small arguments soon turned into big fights . Each day was a struggle . As days turned into months and months into years,our communication was zero to none.It was gone . Our bond was lost . . . .

I was now eighteen years old . I got wrongly fired from my job one day . That same night my whole family was going out . I was cranky and upset .My father & I coincidentally were ready at the same time . We waited by the car in complete silence. Awkward was an understatement.

It was raining. My father took a cigarette out , lit it and put his hand out to me . I took the moist cigarette from his hand and took a long drag . I looked at the cigarette and then looked at him. He winked at me . That was it . That was my moment .

Now . Is this a happy story or a sad one . I’m going to let you decide that for yourself.
