At the passing of a thousand years after the building of the great Sphinx at Giza, Pharaoh Hatshepsut ruled alongside her stepson and nephew Thutmose III in a period defined by great wealth and trade for Ancient Egypt. She constructed many temples in her name and ordered the reconstruction of the then 600-year-old Karnak Temple. This Sphinx was discovered in Deir Al Bahri in 1926 in Hatshepsut's mortuary. The Sphinx weighs almost seven tonnes, and as the second female pharaoh of Egypt, it befits the significance that this pharaoh had on her country's story.
