The mangroves of Sundarbans are home to a variety of snake species and the Red-Tailed Bamboo Pit Viper is certainly one of the most beautiful of them all! The bright green colour of this venomous viper acts as a perfect camouflage amidst leaves that share a similar tone. I came across this individual multiple times during my visits to Sundarbans, and almost everytime I saw the snake dangling or slithering across the leaves of a cactus bush that's present near a small temple inside the forest. The snake had perfectly blended amidst the leaves of this cactus.

About the Artist:
Swaroop is a photographer based in Kolkata, India and has been practicing his art for more than a decade now. His love for the art of photography has taken him to numerous locations across the country. To him photography is not just a language of light but a medium of expressing his thoughts and emotions as well. Many of his works have been featured in various international and national media such as Smithsonian Mag, The Guardian, National Geographic, Sanctuary Asia and more. He has also received several prestigious awards and recognitions during this journey. This includes a national award from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, winner of Olympus Global Photo Contest in Macro Category 2015, Finalist in 14th and 15th Smithsonian Magazine Photography Competition and more.
Mother Nature, her elements and her wonders have always been the biggest source of inspiration for me when it comes to photography and art. I believe, photography is one of those most powerful mediums of communication that can break the disconnect between Humans and Nature. The power of art seamlessly creates a bridge to connect the viewer's soul with that of the artist. And this is exactly how photography can raise a sense of consciousness among us about the importance of wildlife and conservation. I've been exploring the wilderness of India for more than a decade now, and this specially curated collection has some of my most favourite images that were made during this time. Every photograph you see here has a very precious memory encapsulated in it, a memory that talks about the trees, the rivers, the forest and her denizens that connect us all in the circle of life.
