Around age 6-7, I remember chasing a stray cat with a friend. He wanted us to throw stones at it for fun. As I nervously picked up a stone, an old man nearby warned us to not hurt animals. I quickly dropped the stone but my friend ignored his advice. I ran after him yelling at him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen. Upset, I went back to the man, “He won’t listen to me.” He replied: “You can’t control others, you did the best you could do to help the cat, but at the end of the day, he is responsible for his own actions.” That really stuck with me.
