There is so much I could say about this piece and because of that I've decided to say as little as possible. This piece is as much about why I wanted to make it as it is about your response to it. Both are equal to each other.

I will note a couple of things: This cow was killed humanely and was butchered to feed an entire community for a week - this is the reality of living in the bush and in remote places all over the world.

This mound is a termite mound, natural sculptures that are iconic in this part of the world - I also a gentle nod to my ceramics practice and all the work I have done with the beautiful red earth.

I will say one last thing and that is that I think this might be the best thing I have ever made. I can see it displayed the size of a wall on a rich charcoal as they walk into a grand concrete building. Confronting the viewer and asking them to question their own prejudices and disconnection to the natural world.

There is so much more I could say but the rest of the conversation is up to you...

Burial Rites collection image

So often now in the western world we turn away from death and have so few rites and honoring left in our culture. This series is imbued with the rituals of my ancestors past, of viking burials, of Stone Henge sacrifices of druid offerings and witches brews. An ode to the natural world and to the wild in all of us.

My Decay Projects are focused on the practice of truth telling, to capture life exactly as it is, death, decay and an honest capturing of its motion through the natural world.

Pieces are usually made #AndyGoldswothy style. In situ using only what is available in the immediate environment. Capturing a moment that is uniquely of it's place before letting all it's parts return to atom and dust, a passing moment in the natural world captured in 0's and 1's on the blockchain for all eternity.
