In 2013, people started to protest demolishing Gezi Park in Taksim. The demonstrations, which would have continued peacefully if the police had not intervened, evolved into civil unrest. Throughout the demonstrations, the police intervened harshly without regarding civil rights. I was there and breathed the smoke of the tear gas grenades with everyone else.
I believe that the Gezi protests have a critical moment in the history of Turkey. I took this photo on the Ataturk Cultural Center roof. It was a few days after the protests started. People were gathering at Taksim Square.

Istanbul is a unique and inspirational city for many artists, writers and photographers. Ara Guler, Bruno Barbey, Nikos Economopoulos, Alex Webb, and many other photographers.
This city that connects two continents is a love-hate paradox for most Istanbulites. For me, it's part of my soul. I've been living far from Istanbul for the last few years. It's not possible to share all of the photos and memories but these are when I think of Istanbul to come to my mind.
