Artist Note: My name is Oleksii. I am an amateur photographer from Ukraine. On the eve of the war, I decided to take some photos that could draw the world's attention to Ukraine. The photo, which flew around the world and became a meme, I took 2 days before the war. This is a photo of my daughter with candy and a gun in an abandoned building. The girl represents Ukraine - a young state that will defend itself to the last. This photo should show that all people of Ukraine, of all ages and genders, will rise up against the invaders.
Clars Auction Gallery is proud to be offering a limited edition of 50 NFTs of “Girl with Candy”, by world renowned Ukrainian photographer Oleksii Kyryrenchko. Oleksii, who’s been a photography hobbyist since school, wanted to capture and show the world what a war torn Ukraine would look like for its people and its children. This photo of his 9 year old daughter was first shared earlier this year and became viral in March 2022, with the auction of the print raising $8000 USD for Ukrainian Relief. The proceeds of this collection will go towards supporting Ukraine with the non-profit Come Back Alive, and Oleksii's family.
