Inspired by both movie star of the 1950s and 60s Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993), and Punk culture which was centered in London in the second half of the 1970s. The Punk movement is often described as ‘stripped down’ or ‘minimalist’, which is pretty much the exact opposite of my style, ironically. And anarchy is also pretty much the opposite of what Audrey’s image ever was. The subject was on my ‘to do’ list for a long time. I had a clear idea in mind to create a restrained and elegant ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ inspired piece that riffed off the chic of the iconic Holly Golightly character from the movie, as well as the jewelry brand. However things went in an unexpected and inspired direction and this is where we’ve ended up. Recently I’ve been looking at a lot of work from Swiss painter and designer Dario De Siena, and also Scottish OG Crypto Artist Miss AL Simpson - so they’ve definitely both had an influence. ‘Hepburn Rebellion’ is as if they had a weekend fling and this piece is the resulting baby.
