When a much, much bigger, and much hungrier octopus saw her from a distance. It’s true that octopuses practice cannibalism, but so do many animals. So do humans. At any rate, the giant octo did try to hunt our hero. Her flight mode kicked in, and she started swimming madly toward a net she couldn’t see. But neither did her pursuer, fortunately, and our friend was small enough to slip through the net and live to swim another day. So she got lucky in one way. But also, trusting your own recklessness is a hard thing to unlearn once it has saved you.
