Text: The device consisted of a control room attached to a large pump. Inside was a light source and a lever. A computer panel stood nearby. Red asked Naga to take him to the panel, which lit up when they approached. Someone needs to use the lever, too, Red said weakly. Then Red shared what the aliens told him: You will each have a task, and when you get there, you will know what to do. The panel and lever power a machine that will bring in water from your oceans, decarbonize it and remove the microplastics, and replenish it with nutrients that will help the coral regrow. It will take three months to recycle your planet’s seas. In that time, our ship will remove carbon and pollutants from the air. Red couldn’t move, so he told Ghost how to operate the panel. And Naga when to push the lever. Beneath them, a heavy fan spun up slowly. It started to pull in water. And after a short moment, a plume of vapor exploded from the upper pipe. As the machine came on, Red thought about his friend. Why didn’t she come with me? He wanted to cry. He thought he heard her say his name, but it was Ghost and Naga, who couldn’t get him to wake up.
Red has survived his excursion to the bottom of the ocean, but the visitors are back with more demands. Will Red side with the visitors against the humans? And will he reunite with his friend? Find out in The Book of Octomint II: Alliance.
