This artwork is my general rant against degradation of the artistic freedom around us. There is a conscious effort to muffle the voices that raise questions against the hegemony and majority. Laws can always be made about how important Right to Expression is, like the First Amendment in the US, the Article 19 of Indian Constitution, etc, but what happens with the artists in the real life is an altogether a different story. Any piece of art , be it a painting, digital file, standup comedy, can be called in bad taste, lacking any meaningful conceptual engagement. It could be downright rejected by the viewers. BUT IT HAS A RIGHT TO EXIST. Freedom of expression is essential to art. What is art if its not from the heart ? In this complicated and technology driven world, art is the only thing 'human' to us. The emotions , the ideas that are communicated via art reminds us of our existence, our pasts and ourselves.
my series 'Rebel'. Its inspired by the journey that I, as an artist has experienced till now. Art was never my first natural choice, it developed over the years as a form of rebellion against what others had to say about what should I do. People always have opinions about my choices. The more they pushed me inwards, Art enabled me to bounce back outwards with even greater force. I think Art has amplified my revolting voice amidst all the imposing forces and has set me free. I started creating because this is where I wanted to channel my emotions and the feelings. Albert Camus has described this emotion into few words, as: " I rebel; therefore I exist "
The use bold and powerful colors , the sharp lines and patterns are a symbolism of the emotions that I go through while I create something. Its the courage and a sense of freedom that I think is inevitable when you do what you love.
