The photographs of that summer are one-off in two ways. One is that it is a one-off as a photograph. The other is that I can no longer take photographs like that summer's. My knowledge and skills in photography have improved a lot in the last 20 years. But that is why I can no longer take emotional photos like the ones from that summer. And it's also my first digital work of 2004.

My photographs are not a central image that can be accepted by everyone, they are merely fragments of the periphery. However, the peripheral fragments may reach the centre of someone's heart. The chain of peripheral fragments reaching someone's heart may become a fine resistance against the forces that move us towards a certain centre.

あの夏の写真は２つの意味で一回性を有する。ひとつは写真としての一回性。もう一つはあの夏のような写真をぼくはもう撮れないということだ。この20年近くで僕の写真に対する知識や技術は随分と向上した。けれども、だからこそ、今はもうあの夏のような感情的な写真は撮れないだろう。

僕の写真は誰もに受け入れられる中央的なものではなく周辺の断片にすぎない。けれども、周辺の断片が誰かの心の中心に届くことがあるかも知れない。その連鎖は僕らをある中心へと向かわす力に対しての細やかな抵抗なるかも知れない。少なくとも僕はそう願っている。2004年自身初のデジタル作品。
