Los Vigilantes Oscuros 8 (2021/03/16, R code). This generative artwork was released as a unique iteration series (numbered 1-30) by Kenny Vaden. Twenty-five partly overlapping stripes were drawn from top to bottom of the plot region. The stripes were created by connecting 16 random points of intermediate heights with spline interpolation, then shrinking each from 100 to 10 percent height. Colors were randomly selected from white, black, and more rarely dark-red. The edge lines were colored dark gray. The image dimensions for this file are 20x20 inches and resolution is 300 DPI, which produced a file size below the limit, which provides a higher resolution (more detail) than the original version shown online.
These generative artworks were written in the R Statistics Language, my preferred coding language for research and statistics. Many of these were created in response to events that occurred during the global pandemic, as we watched exploding death rates, extreme apathy and resistance to helping others, and self-interested political leadership that only made matters worse. While the world offered us anxiety and dread, my creative interests turned from largely nature photography artwork to code-based artwork that created different output each time it was executed. I started to "meet" other code artists online who shared my excitement about this artform, with different art backgrounds and technical disciplines from myself that included designers, painters, engineers, biostatisticians. This was a rare chance to make friends and share what we had learned, during the apocalypse. We were fortunate. Daily practice developed my artistic style and themes that span across pieces.
