Summer evenings are unpredictable around here. You might have an amazing forecast and then get skunked upon arrival. In this case a friend was visiting from out of town and we had to make the call about 2 hours before sunset, for a 1.5 hr drive. We arrived to Lots of clouds that night, but after being completely covered during the sunset, it opened up and the clouds framed the mountain in a bunch of unique ways. This particular view didn't happen until nearly 30 minutes after true sunset.
Just wait it out. Nature does cool stuff, and sometimes you just have to hang long enough to see it.
10% of the winning bid for this piece will be donated to the Friends of Mt Hood to forward their conservation and stewardship efforts in this unique area of this beautiful state.
I am a Nature, Landscape, and Commercial photographer based in Portland Oregon. I've lived in Oregon my whole life. While I love venturing out into other places, this is home. This collection highlights places that have moved me deeply - some visited with friends, some solo, and some quite often multiple times over the years. My goal was to show the broad geological and ecological range of my home state, framed in star light and the soft beauty of twilight.
This is my love letter to Oregon.
This is a collection of 9 images. Oregon is a vast place, and I intend to keep exploring with future image to be released in separate volumes.
