A watercolour painting of a girl tying her pointe shoe ribbons before going on stage.
Before becoming a watercolour painter I worked for many years as a professional dancer, drawing and painting ballerinas was actually how I started as an artist. Even as a child I used to draw and paint dancers, I used to have note pads filled with my own tutu design ideas.
My favourite moment to recreate in my paintings from my dance days is the ambience felt backstage. Far unlike the polished on stage presence, the feeling backstage is raw, bubbling excitement and anticipation. It is a feeling quite unlike any other I've experienced. And this is what I've aimed to recreate in this collection.
