About the Artist:
Lauren Oien
Lauren is a local Southern California based artist. Graduate from Laguna College of Art and Design with Honors in May of 2021. She majored in Game Art Design with a focus on Character Design. Her journey at LCAD allowed her to discover new art fields developing her skills in various mediums ranging from 2D digital illustrations to 3D modeling. In her exploration to find a creative focus she came across great influencers such as Alphonse Mucha, Patrick Niguel, Hayao Miyazaki, Jimyo, Varga, and several others. Lauren’s art ranges from various mediums such as traditional oil painting to digital design.
The Overall Aesthetic of her work is driven by the combining styles of modern Anime art with the traditional foundation of classical art. Inspired by the whimsical joy of Hayao Miyazaki‘s Ghibli films with the addition of Varga’s pin-up illustrations. Lauren incorporates the intricate details that of Alphonse Mucha’s ornate art nouveau compositions. You can also find Mother Earths' floral environment that Lauren combines with human engagement. Laurens’s signature style is rendering portraits of semi-realism characters that provoke energy radiating in confidence with slight human compassion whether that be of sorrow or joy bring life to the piece. Each character has a relatable openness for the viewer to interpret and relate to each one in their own way. One can expand on the combination of fantasy and realism giving way for one’s own story.
