About Smile -
My work comes from a tradipainying background which I learned from my father and Uncle. I try to keep that link as much as possible whilst expressing my appreciation for surrealism and modern culture.
The paintings like “Smile” are all from a series called “Masked”
I use women mainly as the main subject matter as a tribute to them and the masks are there to represent the metaphorical ones we use daily. Women especially have to put up barriers more so than men.
The original “Smile” has a very small detail hidden in the painting which is where the name derives.
About Ed Williamson -
The nephew of a fine artist, Ed showed a talent for painting at a young age with some of his A-level work being displayed in The Tate Modern as part of a celebration of young talent.
However, when the opportunity to play Premiership rugby presented itself to him at the age of 18, it was too good of an opportunity to miss.
Following over a decade in the premiership, Ed picked up a paintbrush again when a serious injury ruled him out for an entire season, and a renewed passion for painting was born.
Self-taught from then on, Ed took up an offer to finish his rugby career in France part-time so that he could dedicate more time to improving his skills and knowledge as an artist.
Since his retirement from rugby in 2017 Ed has developed a thriving career as a contemporary artist, creating a beautiful world that marries his love of surrealism, fine art, and contemporary culture.
