Drawing inspiration from Jean Michel Basquiat's "Charles I,"painted in 1982, Charles I reflects on the anguish he and his peers faced on their rise to stardom. In a sense, it foretells Basquiat's own demise due to a high risk lifestyle. The painting is named after King Charles I of England, who was beheaded for treason. King Charles I was self Righteous, Unscrupulous and arrogant, but he had one of the greatest art collections In English history. The death of a young king speaks about the reoccurring truth of loosing talent and creativity, whether young or old. This piece leaves a dilemma by asking "Who is responsible?" - The artist who cannot balance out his imagination with reality or the art that deepens the mind with more intellectuality or a close minded society (like in my case) or just the universe? Truthfully, in making this piece, I realize that death is inevitable and sometimes unforeseeable. The goal in life is to create, think, and question. All kings die, some live forever. A kiel orji and Amaremo Elaebi Collab.
