When a large animal dies or is killed it attracts many scavengers but when that carcass begins to dwindle and there are less and less scraps to go around, competition increases.
Out of all of the large predators hyena are normally the most tolerant of vultures but in this particular case, this hyena had only just arrived and had not had his fill so didn't want to take any chances with the vulture stealing his dinner!
This hyena actually caught a vulture and like a dog chasing cars didn't know what to do if he ever actually caught one. The hyena appeared as surprised as the vulture in being caught and just sort of stood there with vulture in mouth not knowing what was coming next.
This lasted but a few seconds until the hyena loosened his grip and the vulture flew away unharmed.
