It's been 5 years since the Punk pandemic ravaged the world and took the lives of all but 10,000. During this time, pharmaceutical companies raced against each other to see who could come up with a vaccine first and dominate the market. Many trials failed with their test subjects experiencing mild symptoms, while others noted no impact at all. However, one trial involving a test subject by the name of Punk #4559 would change the Punkiverse forever...

Punk #4559 had recently lost his job at the gas station and had started earning an income by signing up to as many scientific research trials as he could find online, each time using a fake ID supplied by his pothead roommate (Punk #6515). This is because they don’t allow you to participate in more than one trial at once due to the potential risk of medicines interacting with each other. Despite this risk, he was taking 5 different drugs per day alongside the vaccine, each with their own page-long list of side effects.

He had been relatively lucky when it came to the side effects, a few itches here and there and some dehydration, but nothing too serious. However, there was one particular side effect that he was experiencing that wasn’t listed on any of the research brochures. Strangely, his sense of smell had intensified dramatically and he could now smell each individual person’s scent from as far away as the other side of the room. He didn’t find their smells bad though, quite the opposite. They would lead him to feel an intense hunger; so much so that going to a crowded area was absolutely euphoric.

One night after arriving home from the lab, he walked inside and was greeted by his stoned roommate sitting in the living room rolling joints. Punk #4559 could smell the intense body odor of his roommate, mixed with the earthy smell of weed that filled the room. After chatting for a while about their days, his roommate accidentally cut his finger on one of the papers. The sight of blood sent Punk #4559 into a frenzy, attacking him and biting a large chunk of flesh from his neck. This event would go down as the world’s first zombie attack and mark the beginning of the zombie era.
