In the winter, photography here means a lot of waiting around for snow. Some years will pass by without any decent snowfall. This photograph, taken in 2017 seemed to be just such a year. After a winter without getting any photographs, March came around and I had already begun preparing myself for spring. Surprisingly, one night in late March there was a single evening of heavy snowfall in the mountains and when I arrived in the morning I was pleased to find all of the pine trees beautiful covered in just the right amount of snow and frost. I was lucky enough to have this scene all to myself on this morning, which makes the moment all the more special to me.
A collection of 32 Korean pine tree images that I have created while living in South Korea for the past 10 years. Many of these beautiful bonsai-like pine trees are dying off due to changes in Korea's traditional seasonal weather patterns and I have been on a mission to capture and document these amazing trees while I still can. A portion of sales from this project will go directly back to the areas where these images were captured. I will be organizing and documenting clean up projects starting with Daedunsan Provincial Park.
