As I drove through the wilderness and looked across this landscape, I reflected on the importance of being grateful for what one has as well as what one doesn’t.

This was at a time when I’d just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and began to connect with my Purpose of supporting Indigenous Peoples and helping others find balance by connecting with the land.

I almost died a few weeks after shooting this scene. My spine, ribs and sternum fractured as I drove back to Arizona & was a couple of days away from being wheeled off to hospice when I fought back.

It took everything I had to get out of bed & walk across the room to convince the hospital to release me. The doctor looked at my chart, then into my eyes & said “this shouldn’t be possible”.

To this day, I don’t know how I managed it.
