In response to the surreal, ever-changing intensity of the online world and finding one's peace within it.
Laguna Libra, grew her devotion to oil painting on canvas during the Covid-19 pandemic in London; using art as a means of escapism. In a technology-driven society, the internet felt like an overwhelming void filled with deception and a lack of real human sentiment. Using painting as a form of therapy, she hoped others would feel that tenderness through her work. From her dancer background, she is especially fascinated with the female form within the art world, through history, and how the mainstream media clings to body trends and insecurities as a means of marketing. Her in-depth perspective of body movement and pose has evolved through her work; a theme Laguna Libra feels devoted to channelling further. Through her art, she aims to question this computerized reality and bring a sense of grounding to audiences.
The EVERY WOMAN BIENNIAL is a celebration of: uplifting women, non-binary artists, creating opportunities, encouragement, connection, community, inspiration and love. Bringing together established artists alongside hundreds of emerging artists, some showing for the first time. The Biennial launched in NYC in 2014 by founder C. Finley, originally under the name, The Whitney Houston Biennial, as a way to provide a platform and exposure for more female artists.
