JAPE story
Inogo was brought by a vendor to animal merchants in Kinshasa. Seized by Ministry of Environment officers, he was taken to the sanctuary Les Amis des Bonobos du Congo. He was particularly intrigued by my camera and pulling the strap. Bonobos are obsessed with sex, which I thought was quite funny until he started humping my leg.
James and Other Apes (#JAPES) presents 52 celebrated portraits of great apes, captured by James Mollison across four years and four continents. Shot in the aesthetic of the passport photograph, each Jape has their own unique traits and characteristics, and powerful stories which can be found at ART3.io/japes. 10% of net funds raised through NFT sales will be donated to the sanctuaries who rescued the apes and invited James in with his camera, and initial collectors will receive an archive quality certificated print with their Jape.
