Likendze was being sold as a pet with Matoko, before she was rescued by the Ministry of Environment in a trap to catch the hunters. Part of the youngest group of gorillas, not yet reintroduced into the wild, she was still good friends with Matoko, hanging out and playing together.
James and Other Apes (#JAPES) presents 52 celebrated portraits of great apes, captured by James Mollison across four years and four continents. Shot in the aesthetic of the passport photograph, each Jape has their own unique traits and characteristics, and powerful stories which can be found at ART3.io/japes. 10% of net funds raised through NFT sales will be donated to the sanctuaries who rescued the apes and invited James in with his camera, and initial collectors will receive an archive quality certificated print with their Jape.
