Jackson's parents were killed for the bush meat trade and he had been dumped at the Limbe Wildlife Center. He had one of the palest faces of the chimpanzees I photographed, which typically have many honey shades, browns and black skin. The first flashes made him blink but then he realized they were harmless and observed me with intrigue.
James and Other Apes (#JAPES) presents 52 celebrated portraits of great apes, captured by James Mollison across four years and four continents. Shot in the aesthetic of the passport photograph, each Jape has their own unique traits and characteristics, and powerful stories which can be found at ART3.io/japes. 10% of net funds raised through NFT sales will be donated to the sanctuaries who rescued the apes and invited James in with his camera, and initial collectors will receive an archive quality certificated print with their Jape.
