Now CryptoPunks are less about the art, and more about the clout.
CryptoPunks was launched in June 2017 by Larva Labs, (Matt Hall and John Watkinson). This crypto art blockchain project was an inspiration for the ERC-721 standard for NFTs and the modern crypto art movement. Each one was algorithmically generated with computer code and no two characters are exactly alike. They were originally released for free and could be claimed by anyone with an Ethereum wallet. There will never be more than 10,000 of them, errr…… 9,998 since Robness burned Punk #2317 and one got destroyed by accident last year.
