According to a legend, when Lord Shankar (Ganesha's Father) and Goddess Parvati (Ganesha's Mother) were resting in their bedroom, they placed Ganesha at the door instructing not to let anyone in. Then Parashurama came and asked to meet Lord Shankar. But Ganesha refused to do so. Parshuram got angry at this and broke one of his tusks with his ax.
