"To create this piece, I was inspired by several women filmmakers that I know, and am able to see their daily struggles. At the same time, as a woman, I see that the female body is sexualized on screen and still is full of stereotypes and certain beauty canons, that have affected the lives and minds of many women negatively, causing them not to accept themselves. Let's normalize that as women, we are diverse in both what we do for a living and how we look like." - Karen Medina

Karen Medina is a Mexican plastic and visual artist. She studied at the Faculty of Arts in Morelos, Mexico, and did an exchange at the Faculty of Arts in Cuenca, Spain. She has worked on social programs, giving art workshops in vulnerable areas of her city. She is interested in social issues and subjects that have to do with the body and emotions.

This piece is part of the "Female Filmmakers - Female Gaze - Collective Collection" brought to life by film director and feminist Josephine Landertinger Forero. Josephine invited female artists from around the world to create a piece that shows their interpretation of what "female gaze" means to them or honor women working in the film industry. The female artists were free to choose which option to pick.
