Almost the end of a long dive at Hantu west - Outer reef, we were waiting to finish our safety stop around 5-6 meters when he came to say hello. I ended up spending more time than we planned, once I saw this curious guy.

Trachyrhamphus bicoarctatus commonly known as Bentstick Pipefish is a common visitor to most of Indo-West Pacific reefs. Usually I would have taken the subject with a clean black background. But on that day decided to do some experiments. Used my video light from the back of the subject to light up the backscatter and create a night sky effect.

This piece was created by Shinto K Anto (Artist alias: FloodedCamera). The image is part of a 1/1 photo collection called Singapore from Below.

Singapore from Below collection image

Volume 1 - Singapore is home to a large variety of animal and plant species, which can be found in their natural habitats. Be it dry land tropical rainforests, mangroves or coral ecosystems, there is a rich biodiversity to be found in our Nature. With this collection, I want to showcase some of the unknown underwater wonders in this local waters.

Unlike the rest of South East Asia, diving conditions in Singapore is challenging. On an average day we get only a visibility of 2-3 meters which can some time go towards 0 depends on the day. But these waters are a great place to photograph underwater macro life. This is going to be a two part series with a combined total of 25 photographs.

To make this world a better place, with every initial sale, we will be doing Marine Megafauna Foundation's whale shark adoption under collector's preferred name.

Let me show you a different Singapore from below.
