María Carolina Josefina Pacanins Niño (Caracas, January 8, 1939), better known as Carolina Herrera, is a world-renowned Venezuelan businesswoman and fashion designer who founded her own fashion house in 1981. She was marquise consort of Torre Casa for her marriage until revocation of the title in 1992.

At the age of 42, she decided to venture into the world of international fashion, thus becoming an internationally recognized fashion designer. Since the 1960s it has been closely linked to American high society, becoming a benchmark for parties and social gatherings, for bohemian New York at the iconic Studio 54, and surrounding itself with characters such as Andy Warhol, Diana Vreeland, Halston and Bianca Jagger.

His first fashion show was held in 1981. Such was its success that in 1982 it was already dressing Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia, the Duchess of Feria, Countess Consuelo Crespi, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Ivana Trump, Kathleen Turner and Nancy Reagan. For twelve years he dressed Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

In 1980, he presented his first fashion collection; in 1986, her first bridal creations, and in 1988, her first perfume for both women and men hit the streets: a meteoric career with which she has earned the respect of the fashion world.

Established in New York since 1982, Carolina Herrera tried to identify herself with luxury and quality in the decades of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, until today, to become one of the best dressed women in the world.

Since her first collection, Carolina Herrera has had the approval and admiration of the American and international public. Her designs are worn by renowned celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Anna Wintour, Meghan Markle, Renée Zellweger, Amy Adams, Jessica Alba, Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Simpson, Blake Lively, Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Nixon, Katie Holmes, Tina Fey, Dianna Agron, Julie Bowen, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Pattinson, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Amber Heard, Kristen Stewart, Meryl Streep, Halle Berry, Beyonce, Salma Hayek, Celine Dion, Karlie Kloss, Taylor Swift, Tyra Banks, Sofía Vergara, Lucy Liu, Lady Gaga, among others. En 2012 fue declarada «Superestrella honoraria» por Noche de Estrellas del grupo de moda internacional Fashion Group International's "Night of Stars".

En 2012 recibió el Premio al Estilo del Diseñador del Año.

En 2011 la firma Mercedes Benz le entregó el reconocimiento de «Presentadora de Mercedes Benz» por su «estilo único, calidad de los materiales y diseño innovador».

En 2005 recibió la «Medalla de Oro de las Bellas Artes» de manos del rey Juan Carlos I de España.​

En 1987 recibió el «Premio Moda al Mejor Diseñador Hispano».​
