Migiri rushed to the spot where the "big dog" had appeared, on the roof of a 30-story building.

Suddenly, there was a roar like a bulldozer knocking down a building, and a large dog was coming from the back, knocking down bookshelves.

砌は大戌( おおいぬ) が出現した地点に急行した。30 階建てビルの屋上である。どのようにここまで登って来たのかわからないが、理由はどうだっていい。あいつがそこにいてそれをどうにかするのが私の今回の任務なのだ。
発信機をつけても彼らは無機物を取り込み無力化してしまうため、所在を追跡し続けるのは難しい。だからこのように区画ごとに配備されたCAM 隊員が先ずは急行することになる。
大戌は名付個体の中でも最高クラスの危険指数が付けられている。大きな犬のような頭部と四肢がその名前の由来だ。どこで吸収したのかその頭部には、温度感知をはじめとたいくつもの高感度センサーが搭載されていることが調査でわかっている。むき出しになった下半身の強靭な筋質から、その瞬発力は凄まじいものだとわかる。

「これより前に出てあれに先に動かれたら避けるの間に合わないかもな…。」

CAM の他隊員が来るまでまだ10 分ほど時間がかかるって言ってたっけ。それまで時間を稼げれば確実だけど、実際は逃げるより倒すほうが楽だったりするんだよな。まぁ倒せなかった場合は文字通り終わりなんだけ... ッ！！来た！！
大戌は縮めたバネが弾けたように一直線に砌目がけて跳んで来る。もはや飛ぶといっても過言ではないだろうという勢いだ。
砌はちょうど足元に通っていたパイプを蹴り横方向に一気に跳んで避ける。10m ほど先の屋上の端にある通信用アンテナに手をかけ、それを軸にして回りながら勢いを殺す。
大戌は砌がさっき蹴ったパイプを紙細工のようにぐしゃりと潰し、すぐさま砌に視線を移す。( 目はないのだが。)
そしてすぐさま砌に向かって跳んでくる。
砌はビルの外に跳んだ。アンテナから伸びていた電線を銃で撃ち切り、その電線をロープのようにして下の階へ降りる。
大戌が上から下の砌を覗いている。彼等は案外頭がいいのでこれくらいなら通れる通路を探してこの階まで降りて来るだろう。
さて、どうしたものか。この狭いところでどうやってうまくやろうか。
突如ブルドーザーが建物を倒したような轟音が鳴り響き、奥から本棚をなぎ倒しながら大戌が向かってくる。
思ったより早いっ！もう来たか！砌は後ろへ勢いよく跳ぶ。

「やばい、間に合わないかも。」
