Kandanar Kelan theyyam was shot in 2021 April, during temple festival at Sree Pacha Vayanadu Kulavan Temple in Kerala. The artists wear make up, headgear and dance according to the rhythm of drums and cymbals. The final act happens, when the artist jumps several times through the pyre of fire and transforms into demi god and blesses the devotees.
Ever since the inception of human kind, there existed the need of a higher power- God. Sometimes the humans watched the gods, sometimes they worshiped one, sometimes they acted as one and sometimes they become one. Age was no bar, from day one to the last, even after death Gods become part of life. In this collection from places around the world, I tried to showcase the relationship between humans, their beliefs and God. This is a collection of 1/1 Photographs with individual stories in them, shot by Arun Hegden.
