I like my alone time. In fact I ENJOY being alone. Having my own space is important to me. I'm perfectly alright sitting alone at the window in my sweatpants. It's just that every few weeks or so, I realize I haven't made conversation with another human being in a while, and it suddenly hits me-
"Am I no longer close to anyone? Is there no one I can turn to anymore?"
And that scares me. I feel like I could disappear, and no one would even notice.
"Loneliness” is a fashionable term, and like all fashionable terms, it’s a cover for all sorts of things most people would rather not name and have no idea how to fix. And the tragedy of it all, is that lonely people can’t see that lots of people feel the same way they do.
'Modern Loneliness' is dedicated to those of you that are hit with the purple feeling of loneliness. I know that If you’re lonely, almost the last thing you want to do is reach out to someone. But you have to make yourself. You are not “alone,” a “loser,” a “recluse,” “bad at making friends.” Yes, it can be difficult to exert the energy to try new things when you’re lonely, but maybe it’s worth a try.
But what do I know? Maybe you should just reply "Same" to a relatable tweet and call it a day.
It's overwhelming to allow yourself to catch a feeling. Uncomfortable. It requires us to confront ourselves fully. But we do feel. We're only human. This collection is close to me. It's everything I've felt. It's everything YOU'VE felt! Anxiety, Burnout, Grief, Depression, Loneliness and more. I caught some purple feelings. And this is me being vulnerable and uncomfortable, and allowing the world to witness it. I expressed my emotions through this collection, processed complex feelings, and found relief. If, by any chance, you've caught a purple feeling, I hope you find some relief too.
