Tomoe Gozen was a 12th century Japanese warrior woman who became a very famed samurai. She is one of Japan's rare women warrior, who engaged in battle and left severed heads on her path. Her weapons of choice were the katana and the bow and arrow.

She lived at a period that where Japan was mostly about civil war and family feuds for who would control the imperial throne.

A lot about her life has been romanticised and it is today almost impossible to tell legend from reality. Tomoe became a leading commander for Lord Kiso no Yshinaka in the Genpei war where she had many successful campaigns.

It is unknown how she died, some said she was captured, others that she became a concubine of her great nemesis while others even speculate that she might have become a buddhist nun.
