Poppies on a white cliff, looking towards the continent. A plant with varied associations, from Flanders Fields to Kubla Khan. Bloodshed and rebirth; opiates and ecstasy.

The poppy’s roots spreading in unexpected directions. Sometimes, moments are like coins cropped in wishing wells, pulses emanating from a central point in all directions. I remembered the poems, and lay down amongst the red poppies on the cliff, focusing the camera on their abrasive stalks, appreciating impermanence.

This image comes from the project, Don't Push Me 'Cause I'm Close to the Edge, documenting happenstance encounters in and around the British coast. The project began in earnest during the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel was off limits.

This curated collection is capped at 100 pieces, released over time, at which point, it will be made into a photo book. This image is part of the first "drop" that includes images taken during the 2020–21 pandemic itself.
