Grimbleflies are distant descendants of butterflies, but apart from sharing some visual similarities, that is where the likeness ends. These giant winged creatures have an appetite for destruction, and have little empathy of care for anyone or anything. Their cool demeanour grows with them from baby to teen to adult, until they appear devilish and cruel. The really peculiar thing about Grimbleflies is how they are born. Their eggs don’t look like eggs, but appear more like matchboxes which begs the question – who makes the matchboxes? Grimbleflies are the dominant creature across the Northern Isles, and their thousand-year reign has been one of devastation. Their only purpose in life is to destroy and consume at the expense of all else. Nobody know where they came from, or how they are born, only that their matchbox-like eggs appear from nowhere, as if created by some evil overlord. The Grimbleflies are devilish creatures, but they weren’t always the dominant beasts on the Northern Isles. It is rumoured that a thousand years ago the land was protected by fearless dragon-like protectors known as Gargosaurs. The Gargosaurs were thought to have been wiped out in the mysterious cataclysm, leaving the Grimbleflies to wreak havoc across the Isles. But now there are stories spreading that the Gargosaurs might be back, and that a war is coming to regain their rule over these sacred lands.
